CONCENTRATION IN COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE (CAM)

The curriculum is designed to allow the student to acquire a Master’s Degree in Public Health Administration as well as prepare him/her for a career in Public Health Administration. This degree will prepare the student for a career beyond entry-level in Public Health Administration with a Concentration in CAM. The program leading to the Master’s Degree Public Health Administration-Concentration in CAM (MPHCAM) has been designed to provide students with the opportunity to apply advanced theoretical concepts and knowledge from all functional areas of Public Health Administration through an analytical, decision-making process which focuses on solving practical problems.

MASTER’S DEGREE IN PUBLIC HEALTH ADMINISTRATION-CONCENTRATION IN CAM DESCRIPTION

The MPHC curriculum provides a challenging and creative learning environment with an intensive program of study that has a broad-based administrative emphasis as well as an emphasis on alternative approaches. Public Health Administration professionals come from varying educational backgrounds and can specialize in an array of fields. A host of specialists, including teachers, journalists, researchers, administrators, environmentalists, demographers, social workers, laboratory scientists, and attorneys, work to protect the health of the public. The concentration in Complementary and Alternative Medicine gives the student a unique perspective on the emerging field of CAM integration within healthcare systems and policy.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The Master’s Degree Public Health Administration (MPHCAM) seeks to provide students with a well-rounded view of the field of public health. Graduates will be able to confront complex health issues, such as improving access to health care, controlling infectious disease, influencing healthcare policy, community health assessment, and epidemiology with a component of complementary and alternative medical approaches. The degree program offers personal fulfillment by working towards improving the public’s health and well-being.

PROGRAM OUTLINE

To receive a Master’s Degree Public Health Administration students must complete 36 credit hours as described below. The length of the program is approximately 12 months or 48 weeks (this will vary if a student transfers in credits).
