BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Construction Association of South Florida (CASF) has awarded an additional $180,000 to the Everglades-CASF Scholarship Endowment at Everglades University, bringing the CASF Foundation’s total gift to $240,000. The expansion was announced at the first annual CASF/EU Construction Management Job Fair, where CASF member companies met with Everglades University students and alumni.
The announcement
CASF Executive Director Remy Mackowski addressed the CASF members, EU students, and alumni attending the job fair and expressed his support for Everglades University’s construction program. He discussed the success of the CASF/EU scholarship program under the initial CASF gift of $60,000 and the scholarships it has awarded to EU construction management students.
Mackowski credited the strong relationship with, and support of, Everglades University President Kristi Mollis as a significant reason for the day’s event and for the expansion of the scholarship program. He then announced the additional $180,000 gift, which brings the total provided by CASF to $240,000.
President Mollis followed, thanking CASF for its support and for the generous expansion of the scholarship. She expressed her gratitude to Mackowski for his instrumental role in building the growing relationship between the two organizations, and she wished both the CASF member companies and the EU alumni great success at the event.
How the endowment began
The partnership dates to 2021, when the CASF Foundation made a $60,000 gift to establish a permanent scholarship endowment at Everglades University’s School of Construction Management.[1]
The original gift was funded entirely by the CASF Foundation through member donations made during membership renewals and at CASF events.[1] Under the terms of the endowment, scholarships go to junior and senior students who submit an essay describing their plans to pursue a construction career in South Florida.[1] At the time, CASF described the endowment as a way to help grow South Florida’s construction workforce and noted it was exploring mentorship, internship, and outreach opportunities with EU.[1] Read CASF’s original 2021 announcement.
We aspire to educate and train the future leaders of South Florida’s construction industry, as well as to support the needs of the industry. — Kristi Mollis, President and CEO, Everglades University, on the founding of the endowment in 2021[1]
Five years later, the first annual job fair and the expanded endowment show that relationship in action: the same industry association that funds scholarships for EU students is now bringing its member companies to meet them.
The career expo
Employers from across South Florida’s construction industry set up at the expo to meet Everglades University students and graduates, conduct interviews, share their expertise, and talk through career opportunities in general contracting, construction management, specialty trades, and internships.
Everglades University extends a heartfelt thank-you to CASF and to all of the outstanding employers and industry partners who took part. Their willingness to connect with EU students and graduates, conduct interviews, share their expertise, and open doors to career opportunities means a great deal to the university and its students.
