What are the Prerequisites for Getting a Masters in Public Health?

Those interested in earning a master’s in public health need to have earned a prior bachelor’s degree. Many students who have an undergraduate degree in teaching, journalism, social work, or even scientists see the importance and impact of public health in their current careers. While Everglades University considers every master’s degree applicant individually, there are some necessary prerequisites to increase your acceptance chances. 

Graduate Program Admissions Requirements:

  • Complete an application to the Master’s Degree in Public Health Administration program along with a $50 non-refundable application fee
  • Provide official transcripts of an earned Bachelor’s degree or Graduate degree from an accredited college recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
  • Show proof of a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale for a Bachelor’s degree or a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale from a Master’s degree program
    • Note: Students with a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale at a baccalaureate level do not need to take an entrance exam
    • Note: Students who have already completed six semester credit hours at a graduate level with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale do not need to complete an entrance examination
  • If needed, score the minimum required on one of the following entrance exams:
    • A minimum of 500 on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)
    • A minimum of 290 on the current point scale of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
  • Complete any necessary prerequisite courses deemed by your admissions or academic advisor

Additional Recommendations

Everglades University also recommends that students applying for a Master’s Degree in Public Health Administration complete the following courses. Please note that these courses are not required for entrance into the program.

  • HSC 164: Introduction to Health and Wellness Systems
  • HSC 2732: Introduction to Understanding Clinical Research
